Surgeon washing handsHand hygiene is one of the most important measures in the fight against health care-acquired infections, making it a key patient safety issue within the health sector.  International evidence is clear that improved hand hygiene practices help reduce health care-acquired infections, including antibiotic-resistant infections within hospitals.

The Commission has entered into partnership with the Auckland DHB to implement a national hand hygiene work programme. For information on the programme see the Hand Hygiene New Zealand website.
